Connecticut Bishops issue statement on immigration
(May 1, 2008)
- The six Roman Catholic Bishops of Connecticut have issued a joint statement
on immigration, "To See the Immigrant Through the Eyes
of Faith." The bishops state in
the opening paragraph, "We approach the issue . . . with a
focus on faith, human dignity and the natural
law. We try to see immigrants through the eyes of Christ and
with the help of faith to understand better what is required
of us as Catholics and citizens in addressing the challenges
of immigration. We recognize the God-given worth of every person,
despite their legal status, and thus the basic human dignity
to which they are entitled." See entire Statement.

Father
McGivney declared "Venerable" by the Church
On March 15, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI authorized the promulgation of a
decree recognizing the heroic virtue of Father Michael J. McGivney, the
founder of the Knights of Columbus and parish priest of the Archdiocese
of Hartford. The decree gives Father McGivney the distinction of "Venerable
Servant of God", a step in the process toward canonization. Read
more on Father McGivney. See Knights
of Columbus web site.
