Catholic Deaf Apostolate

Mission

The Catholic Deaf Apostolate exists to serve the special pastoral needs of Catholic deaf adults, youth and their families to enable each deaf Catholic person to share fully in the Catholic faith - a right he/she has from his/her Baptism - and to grow in faith with the support of clergy and religious skilled in the communication and culture of deaf persons.

Services Available

Mass in Sign Language

  • West Hartford: Each Sunday at 10:45 a.m., St. Joseph College Chapel, 1678 Asylum Avenue
  • Waterbury: 2nd Sunday of each month at 3:00 p.m., SS. Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road (in rectory basement meeting room)

Interpreted Sunday Mass

  • Meriden: 1st Sunday of each month at 10:30 a.m., St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center Street
  • Torrington: Each Sunday at 10:15 a.m., St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main Street

Masses on Television (WTXX-TV in Waterbury)

  • 1st Friday each month celebrated in sign language
  • 3rd Friday each month with sign language interpreter

Other Services:

  • Religious education classes and sacramental preparation
  • Marriage preparation and wedding celebrations
  • Hospital and nursing home visitations
  • Interpretation at, or celebration of wakes, funerals, and other church events
