Archdiocesan
faithful join in Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium
April 20,
2008 - Several buses left from around the archdiocese carrying priests,
deacons, religious and lay faithful of the archdiocese to Yankee
Stadium in the Bronx for the culminating Mass of Pope Benedict's
visit to the United States. An enthusiastic crowd of 57,000 greeted
the Holy Father as he arrived in his popemobile and made his way
to the main altar, placed over second base. Prior to his arrival
the audience was treated to a two-hour concert. Minutes before his
arrival,
young
people performed
a choreographed presentation of flying large white paper birds around
the entire stadium, ending in the release of a flock of live doves which
soared into the air, symbolizing the coming of the Holy Spirit in
the midst of the gathering. (Photos
