Connecticut
Catholic Conference releases report
on abortion trends in Connecticut
HARTFORD (01-21-2009) - On the eve of the anniversary
of Roe v. Wade, the Connecticut Catholic Conference, as the public
policy office of the Catholic
Bishops of Connecticut, announced efforts to seek changes in Connecticut’s
abortion laws to better protect minor teenage girls.
The Connecticut
Catholic Conference hosted a press conference to announce the
release of its first annual report on abortion
in Connecticut. The report presented completely new and not previously
released information relating to abortion trends, State oversight
and the growing abortion business in Connecticut.
The Conference
also outlined several legislative initiatives it feels should
be enacted in response to the serious concerns raised
by the report. These initiatives will primarily focus on efforts
to assist and protect minor teenage girls facing an unplanned
pregnancy. Concerns about shortcomings in administrative oversight
of the
abortion industry were also discussed.
