Wedding Anniversary Mass honors married couples
HARTFORD (10-25-2009) - Married couples throughout the archdiocese celebrated their milestone wedding anniversaries at a special Mass held at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Monsignor John J. McCarthy officiating. In his homily, Monsignor McCarthy encouraged the couples to continue their commitment to love one another, for "when we love, we are more fully human, and when we are more fully human, we love."
The Mass, sponsored by the Archdiocesan Family Life Office, honored over 300 couples celebrating 25, 50, 60 and 70 years of marriage. After the homily, Monsignor McCarthy announced, "Today you stand before the world as a striking testimony of what God's grace, conferred in marriage, can effect in the husband and wife who will work along with the divine treasure that is in them. Our world has a great need of the living testimony, which your fidelity and loyalty gives to all." The honorees were invited to renewed their marriage vows in the present of the congregation.
The couples will receive an Anniversary Certificate to mark the special occasion.
