Archbishop Henry Mansell to Ordain Seven Men as Transitional Deacons on Saturday, December 3, 2011

Bloomfield, Conn. – (November 30, 2011) Seven men will be one step closer to the priesthood when Archbishop Henry J. Mansell ordains them as transitional deacons on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Archdiocesan Center at Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield at 11:00 am.

Having completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in philosophy and four years of study in theology, they will continue their studies by providing pastoral care at various parishes across the Archdiocese of Hartford. Once they complete this requirement, they will be ordained as priests in the spring.

The seven candidates are: Andres Mendoza Floyd from Colombia who is currently assigned to Our Lady of Pompeii in East Haven; Mathieu Isaac from Haiti who is currently assigned to the Archdiocesan Center at Saint Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield; Didier Julian Cardona Marin from Colombia who is currently assigned to St. Augustine in Hartford; Jorge Eliecer Castro Morales from Colombia who is currently assigned to St. Bernard in Enfield; Timothy Edward Ryan from East Hartford who is currently assigned to St. Rose in East Hartford; Nicola Nghia Huu Tran from Vietnam who is currently assigned to Saint Anthony of Padua in Litchfield; and Henry Alexander Avendano Varon from Columbia who served at Saint Teresa of Avila in Woodbury this past summer.

“I am filled with profound joy to ordain these talented and generous men, who want to share their gift of faith and spirituality with the Connecticut community,” said Archbishop Henry J. Mansell.

The archbishop said that 40 other men are in a various stages of study for the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Hartford, which is a tremendous increase in candidates. Eight years ago, there were only six.
