Fortnight For Freedom

Fortnight for Freedom is a 14-day period from June 21 - on the vigil Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More - to July 4 when Catholics from across the United States are being asked by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to focus on prayer, special devotions and catechetical sessions dedicated to the preservation of religious freedom.

Fortnight for Freedom Parish Activities

  • Fri. June 21 - Thu. July 4. St. Margaret Church, Madison. Prayers for religious freedom will be offered following the 7:45 A.M. Mass each weekday morning, at the July 1st Monthly Holy Hour at 3:00 P.M., and during Adoration on July 4th, concluding with Benediction at 7:00 PM.
  • Fri. June 21 - Thu. July 4. St. Rita Parish, Hamden, will join Catholics throughout the United States in observing the second annual Fortnight for Freedom. Various parish groups including the Knights of Columbus and a parish youth group will be involved. The schedule of activities includes: a vigil Mass for the feasts of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher on Friday, June 21; an old-fashioned ice cream social on Sunday, June 23; extended adoration from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 24; a talk on citizenship and immigration by Apostle of the Sacred Heart Sister Mary Ellen Burns, an immigration lawyer and director of the Apostles Immigration Center in New Haven, tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 26; a showing of the epic tale of Catholic freedom fighters in Mexico, "For Greater Glory," on Monday, July 1; and a Mass on Independence Day. In addition, parishioners and families are being encouraged to pray the Rosary on both Saturdays of the Fortnight for Freedom for the intention of religious liberty. See St. Rita web site.
  • Mon-Fri, 7:30 A.M. St. Mary Church, Branford. Rosary in the church during the Fortnight for the cause of religious liberty
  • Fri. June 28, 6:30 P.M. St. Francis, Naugatuck will hold a Prayer Service with Eucharistic Adoration follwed by an ice cream social. Details
  • Sun. June 30, St. Catherine of Siena, West Simsbury, will hold a Fortnight for Freedom Prayer Service in the Mary Garden at 12 noon on Sunday, June 30. Prayers and music will unite our voices to defend religious freedom! The newly renovated Mary Garden will be decked in red, white & blue. Immediately after the service a Fourth of July treat of strawberries and cream will be served. This is being sponsored by our parish's Defenders of Faith committee.
  • Tue. July 2. Church of the Assumption, Ansonia. Holy Hour for Religious Freedom. Details
  • Thu. July 4, Our Lady of Pompeii, East Haven. In honor of the Fortnight for Freedom, the 8 AM Parish Mass for Independence Day will include patriotic hymns and everyone is encouraged to wear patriotic attire and patriotic colors (red, white, and blue). The rosary prayed before Mass at 7:30 AM will include intentions for our country and religious liberty. Please join us in prayer on our national holiday.
