Sister Judith Carey, R.S.M., Ph.D.
Sister Judith is currently an organizational consultant specializing in training and development, strategic planning, facilitation, building effective teams and determining effective organizational behavior with both profit and non-profit organizations. Her thirty years of experience in education, special education, leadership and organizational development includes a six-year term as President of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of Connecticut.

She has held several leadership roles in education and healthcare, including Director of the Gengras Center at St. Joseph College, and Coordinator of the Sponsors Council for Catholic Health East. She has published widely, helped develop and chair national committee and boards of directors and trained groups in a wide range of sectors. She currently serves on the Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Board of Directors, Connecticut Hospital Association, the University of Detroit Mercy, and she chairs the Board for the Conference of Mercy Higher Education.

Austin McCawley, M.D.
Dr. McCawley is a psychiatrist with extensive experience in treating both victims of abuse and abusers. He graduated from the School of Medicine, Glasgow University, Scotland and did his residency in psychiatry at the Institute of Living, Hartford, Connecticut. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Charter Fellow and Founder of the American College of Psychiatrist. Dr. McCawley was Director of Psychiatry at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut Medical School. He is a former President of the Connecticut Psychiatric Society and former Chairman of the State Board of Mental Health.

Reverend Monsignor John J. McCarthy
Monsignor McCarthy has extensive education from Yale University, B.A., University of Chicago Law School, J.D., Pontifical Gregorian University, S.T.B., and Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, J.C.L., and J.C.D. He has military experience in the United States Army as a second lieutenant and as an instructor at the U.S. Army Intelligence School. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 20, 1984. He has served as interim Parochial Vicar at St. Francis Parish, Naugatuck, Parochial Vicar at Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Waterbury, Adjutant Judicial Vicar and Judicial Vicar for the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Hartford. He currently serves as Chancellor of the Archdiocese and as Judge and Defender of the Bond, as well as Promoter of Justice, for the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Hartford.

Kathleen M. Murphy, Esq.
Attorney Murphy is married to Edmond J. Murphy and the mother of five children. She graduated from Boston College and New England School of Law. Attorney Murphy practiced law in Pennsylvania (1983-1999) and most recently in Connecticut. She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and a contract attorney with the State of Connecticut and works representing children who are abused and neglected in the Superior Court for Juvenile Matters. She also represents children who have been victimized by sexual assault in the Criminal Division of the Superior Court in Hartford, Connecticut.

James M. Thomas
Mr. Thomas is a parishioner at the Church of St. Dunstan in Glastonbury. He has been married to his wife, Jane, for thirty-four years and has two children. He is active at St. Dunstan Parish, serving on the parish council for many years as well as being a CCD teacher and an Eucharist Minister. Mr. Thomas is currently the Director of Justice Planning for the State of Connecticut, Office of Policy and Management. He has over twenty-nine years of law enforcement experience and has served as the Chief of Police in both the Vernon and Glastonbury Police Departments. In addition, Mr. Thomas has served as President of both the Capitol Region Chiefs of Police and Connecticut Police Chief’s Association. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Louis University and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice form the University of New Haven, Connecticut. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Program. Mr. Thomas has been a part- time adjunct instructor at Holyoke Community College, Eastern Connecticut State University and the Connecticut Police Academy.

Reverend Hugh J. MacDonald
Father MacDonald was born in New Haven and educated at Notre Dame High School, West Haven; Saint Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield; Saint Mary Seminary, Baltimore, B.A.; The Catholic University of America; and Trinity College, Hartford, M.A. in English. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1964. He has since served as parochial vicar at Saint Patrick Church, Collinsville; as Professor of English at Saint Thomas Seminary (1967-1983); as temporary administrator of Saint Monica Parish, Northford (1983-1995); and as co-pastor of Saint Maurice Parish, New Britain (1984-1995). He is currently pastor of Saint Barnabas Parish, North Haven.
